At ages twelve and thirteen, Serena wrote and illustrated two books about strange creatures that come out at night. Most of this was fiction, but some of the creatures were based on things she had seen. She always enjoyed making people think about unusual things.
In the garden she built a church for insects (photo above; note hedgehog coming down the stairs). It got bigger until it became an abbey, with a chapel at the side, a bell, and a cemetary. There was an altar and lots of flowers. She did services for insects and snails and had funerals for any dead insects or goldfish. At age fourteen she began to find out about spiritual teachings from other parts of the world. She studied Zen Buddhism and Taoism and would confuse the students at her high school with Zen Koans and strange statements about the universe. She learned Japanese art and Ikibana and chose the history of Japan as a school project. That same year she became vegetarian, so her mother had to cook separate meals or she just ate the vegetables.

Besides spirituality and art, Serena's other great interest has always been music and the entertainment field. At age sixteen she began working at the BBC in London. In her spare time she went to all kinds of concerts, from rock music to Ravi Shankar. In 1969 she discovered a rock band that were also spiritual, called Quintessence. They sung songs to the Divine Mother and other Hindu dieties. She joined their group of dancers and they danced and decorated the stage with flowers and candles. She loved to take part in transforming the energy of such places as the Royal Albert Hall, with music that brought people to a higher state of conciousness. As she continued with her spiritual studies, she got interested in the ancient Vedas of India. She lived in temples and ashrams, including Bhaktivedanta Institute, a huge manor house bought by Beatle George Harrison. She studied and practiced bhakti yoga, learned Indian cooking and 'bharata natyam' the classical dance of South India. She also put on plays about the great epics from the Vedas. She wrote and performed a dance drama called 'Garuda and the Sparrow,' a spiritual story using dance, mime, and beautiful music that would move the audience to tears. After spending many years on this path, Serena realized she needed to get away from the patriarchal influence of structured religion which unfortunately has even infiltrated the profound eastern teachings. It was important to break out from the belief system that someone else will save us, rather than awakening to who we really are, and our own path. She then began a journey of healing and growth that helped her blossom into the spiritual teacher and counselor that she now is. Serena continues to study many empowering paths of wisdom, from Pagan and Goddess studies to the Angelic and Ascended Masters. She gives readings and lectures, and she is a frequent guest on radio talk shows. She produces events for speakers in the fields of UFO research, spirituality, new science, and free energy. She is part of the start up team for a new TV station that will help people wake up to truth in all areas of life and empower people to think for themselves. |
